Description

If your blood pressure levels are high and you want to lower them, making lifestyle and dietary changes often can be as effective as drugs. Simple measures such as consuming more linoleic acid (a polyunsaturated fatty acid found in food sources such as corn, soybeans, sunflower seeds, canola oil, and olive oil) can help keep your blood pressure in check, research suggests.

"Although some underlying causes of high blood pressure may make medication necessary, it's far better to lower blood pressure through lifestyle changes and avoid or reduce medication if you can," says Gregory Fricchione, MD, Director of MGH's Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine.
