What are automatic sliding doors used for?

Automatic sliding door systems are a popular choice for commercial buildings or retail stores to control and ease access to a public entry and door. You can find automatic sliding door openers, or automatic sliders as they are sometimes called, in almost any public building in a metropolitan area these days as they are more convenient than manually operated doors, which usually require a person to open and close them, as needed. An automatic sliding door operator is a machine that automatically controls the opening and closing of a building’s or a room’s entrance’s sliding doors, usually for pedestrian visitors and patrons to use. It automatically opens the door, stays open for a few seconds to allow pedestrian traffic to pass through, then closes automatically again. Popular applications where automatic sliding doors are a useful installation are commercial buildings, retail stores, shopping malls, corporate offices and buildings, hospitals, airports, and other public buildings.

How do automatic sliding doors work?

Automatic sliding door systems are usually controlled by sensors, most often optical sensors that get activated by movement near the doors. When the sensors notice movement near the door (such as a person approaching), it sends a signal to the automatic sliding door opener or the automatic sliding door closer to activate the opening or closing of the sliding doors. To prevent injury, most automatic sliding door systems also employ some sort of safety feature that automatically keeps the doors from closing when a blockage or obstruction in between the doors is registered. Examples of such blockages may be a person’s wheelchair’s rolls getting stuck in the moving belt that operates the sliding of the doors.

What types of automatic sliding door opener and automatic sliding door closer systems are there?

There are several interesting options for sliding door openers that work to help control access to public or commercial buildings. Some electric sliding doors even come with an automatic sliding door lock, which can be useful to prevent theft or unauthorized entry to a building. Larger apartment complexes may install residential automatic sliding doors for their community areas, to control and ease access to common areas such as the community office or a community gym. Modern, high-technology farms can even install an automatic barn door opener at their stables to ease access for farm workers and employees.
